I was commissioned to paint a small canvas portrait of gorgeous little Mattie and was invited to come and take my own reference photographs. The owners had lots of photos and particularly liked one that they had on Instagram, of Mattie in the bluebells. It was easy to do a screen shot of their Instagram photo so I could have that alongside the chosen pose from my own reference photos to help me create the background of the painting.

Here are a few of the progress shots that I took as I worked. The work is on a stretched canvas and I painted around the edges and put hangers on the back so that the owners could hang it immediately if they didn’t want to wait for framing. This was commissioned in the run up to Christmas so timing could have been an issue if a frame was needed. I do have a local framer that I use so can now arrange framing if a work is for local delivery or is to be collected.
